Race Out of Town – Encounter – CftD 5
This encounter is designed to be the 5th encounter in the “Chalice for the Devourer” beta testing Adventure. It can also be adapted to be a Kaiju encounter in most towns.
Overview
Location: Main Street Terrence Kennesaw, running from the Shariff’s office to either the docks, stables or Train Station.

Location
Main street, Terrence Kennesaw. Starting at the Sheriff’s office and going directly up or down main street to the stables, train station or docks.
Map should be long and narrow (35×10-15) with buildings along the long sides and the destination at the end.
Introduction
The overnight sandstorm is dying down as dawn breaks in Terrance. Deputy Scooter comes in the front door, the wind still whipping in some sand behind him. The train/coach/river boat is about ready, he’ll run the wagon down and get the gear loaded. They’ll be ready to move in about 20 minutes.
Expulsior Tome calls the group together, “be vigilant, in pray the Beloved Mother warned me we will face grave danger, and I feel it will be soon. Be prepared for anything on our way out of town.
The party exits the sheriff’s office, the Sheriff, Expulsior and Joeseph Cartage form a line of 3 squares directly out of the front door in that order
((ACTION)): Players can place their characters in any open and adjacent space.
The air smells of ozone and dust. A faint smell of smoke hangs in the air, but no immediate sign of fire. The wind dies down and the dust settles down mainstreet.
About halfway out of town a group of yelling and frantic towns folk emerge from one of the larger inns. Three of them were armed and turned back toward the inn and fired off one round each.
At that moment the side of the inn explodes open and from the shards of siding and timbers a Gilatram emerges, a 35′ tall Kaiju with the appearance of a Gila monster with ram’s horns. It snaps at the closest man and raises him in the air. The two remaining men fire again to no affect while the Gilatram crunches down on the victim in its mouth and the now dead soul bursts into flame and falls to the ground.
The two men fire again and the Gilatram snatches a second and raises him into the air, the last standing man fires and hits the monster in the horns, who drops the hurt but uncrushed victim to the ground and raises its head, letting out a massive roar.
What do you do?
Race Out of Town
The Gilatram will only attack people in self defense, it will attack the target closest to it that attacked it first.
The Sheriff will attack the Gilatram regardless of if the players do or do not. He will move inside 10 squares before firing.
The Encounter ends when the Gilatram is dead or the Expulsior, Joseph Cartage and any living player characters reach the destination.
Post Action
If the Gilatram is alive
As our heroes race out of town they can see the town continue to battle the Gilatram, buildings are in flames and what appears to be the sheriff is being crunched in the mouth of the monster.
If the Gilatram is dead
The townsfolk emerge from the busted and burning buildings and begin throwing dirt, food and refuse at the Explusior and the prisoner. “You did this to us.” “This is because you brought that evil here.” “Get the hell outta my town.” Deputy Scooter races to meet you and hustles you toward the Train Station/Stable/Docs and you ride out of town quickly as a mob forms to make sure you don’t come back.
